The 4-cycle, 45°V 2, air-cooled 2 cylinder engine is a twin cams, chain driven with spring loaded tensioners. This engine is designed to use unleaded fuel. The engine lubrication system consists of a twin gerotor, dual scavenge, crank mounted and driven, internal oil pump, dry sump oil pump and 10 micron media, filtered between pump and engine with pressure 30-38 psi (207-262 kN/m2) at 2000 rpm and normal operating temperature of 230o F (110o C). The cylinders are numbered from front to rear; 1, 2 and refer to service manual on the firing order. When component part replacement is necessary, use the engine type and serial number to identify the correct part. Refer to your service manual for locations of serial stamp locations and for complete specifications of your year and model motorcycle.

On models with dual front calipers, check alignment of brake discs to fork. Loosen slider cap nuts and axle nut. Insert a 7/16 in drill bit (1) through hole in front axle. Contact point (2) must have edge of drill touching the edge of fork leg. Tighten front axle to proper torque. Refer to applicable Service Manual.

The 2009 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic is a comfortable motorcycle for touring.

The 2009 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic is a touring motorcycle first introduced in 1994. Motorcycle enthusiasts also call the Road King a cruising motorcycle. The bike's two-tone fender graphics and the location of its license plate above the tail lamp were new for the 2009 Road King Classic. The motorcycle featured a twin cam 96 engine.


Cam Shaft Torque Specifications


The Road King's head bolts 1st step is 11.67 foot lbs of torque and the second step is 17 foot lbs of torque. The 3rd step is 90 degrees or a ¼ inch. The rocker housing bolts have 14 foot pounds of torque and the rocker cover bolts have 18 foot pounds of torque. The rocker arm support plate bolts have 22 foot pounds of torque. The cam cover bolts have 2.5 foot pounds of torque and the lifter cover bolts have 10 foot lbs of torque. The Stator Torx T27 has 6.25 foot lbs of torque.


Engine Specifications


The Road King's twin cam is a 96 degree pushrod-operated type engine. It uses an overhead valve configuration (OHV). The engine's camshaft uses self-adjusted hydraulic lifters. It has a displacement of 96.7 cubic inches, or 1.5 liters, and has a bore/stroke of 3.75/4.37 inches. The engine uses a sequential electronic fuel injection system (SEFI). The engine uses an air cooling system and has a compression ratio of 9.2 to 1.
